What is the difference between NAV and AX?
One of the most commonly asked questions that is all too often answered with gibberish and “politically correct” non-answers is: What is the difference between NAV and AX? It is not what the “buzz” is about, or who has the biggest car in their garage – the answer is what is the best solution for a specific customer. That is all that matters to SCS.
These are both tremendously powerful ERP solutions that encompass financials, sales/CRM, distribution and manufacturing with multi-company, multi-language and multi-currencies built-in. However, they have unique strengths.
Axapta is strongest in a large, multi-country, complex manufacturing environment. Where NAV can often accommodate this, if a larger manufacturing company requires a single instance with all country localizations on a single instance, AX shines and at a fraction of the cost of SAP and Oracle Tier 1 solutions. It has been SCS’s clear experience that trying to “force” an AX solution into a mid-market customer without these requirements can be expensive and time-consuming and reduces the ROI.
NAV addresses almost all other ERP requirements and is a faster to implement and less costly solution. NAV actually has built-in full service management and advanced warehouse management which AX does not yet provide. SCS’s experience has found NAV three to four times faster and less costly to implement than AX. Remember however, AX is about four times faster and less costly to implement than a tier one Oracle or SAP solution.
