PRL Glass Systems
About This Project
From its humble 3-employee-3,000 square foot beginnings in 1989, glass sheet manufacturer PRL Glass Systems turned their vision of having the fastest lead times in the industry into what is now a 500-employee, 400,000 square foot southern California operation. Adding metal systems and hardware to the business, and expanding its reach both nationally and internationally, has made PRL Glass Systems and Aluminum Architectural Products one of the fastest growing companies in the Architectural Glass and Metal industry.
SCS was a strong implementation partner to work with. They got the project done on time and within the budget range, which we are very pleased about. SCS is a great partner to have on your side when going through something as involved as an ERP implementation or upgrade.
Initially offering glass and mirror stock sheets to the Glazing industry, PRL now offers 34 complete product lines to the commercial and residential construction industry and furniture manufacturers, including custom fabricated glass products such as windows, shower and entrance doors, sliding walls and beveled mirrors; and aluminum components for their glass products such as storefront aluminum, curtain rods, guard and hand railings, sliders and more.
PRL’s manufacturing processes include custom cuts, edgework and finishing of glass, as well as custom molding, cutting and finishing of aluminum. One of the largest glass distributors on the West Coast, PRL processes over 400 quotes and 400 orders ranging from $200 – $200,000 each day.
PRL came to SCS in 2006 after attending a NAV Academy course onsite at SCS. Over the years, PRL developed a highly customized manufacturing system within NAV to meet the needs of its 90% custom order business. Due to the extent of their modifications, PRL put off upgrading until their rapid growth necessitated the move to a newer version of NAV. As a result, SCS worked with PRL to upgrade their 100-user ERP system from NAV 2.6 to NAV 2015.
In preparing for the upgrade, every process used in NAV was reviewed. Given the years of investment into the refinement of their system, PRL chose to keep virtually all of their processes intact. SCS worked with PRL to bring their modifications over to the new NAV 2015 implementation and completed the upgrade in just four months.
“The new version is easier to use given its similarity to Outlook which everyone is familiar with,” comments PRL IT Manager Aamer Javaid. “The new system has more features that we are benefiting from, like file sharing and emailing from inside NAV. The compatibility with the Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, and Outlook – has given us greater business productivity across the organization.”
“SCS was a strong implementation partner to work with,” says Aamer. “They got the project done on time and within the budget range, which we are very pleased about. SCS is a great partner to have on your side when going through something as involved as an ERP implementation or upgrade.”
