Frequently Asked Questions

q.  It seems I am locked on one record and can't find other records. What's happening?

a.  Try clearing your filter by pressing the "Show All" button (button at the top of the screen with three horizontal lines).

q.  When I type a customer number on the customer card, it doesn't find the customer number, but asks me if I want to rename the record.  What's up?

a.  You are actually trying to change the customer number.  What you need to do is press "Escape"  to restore the customer number back to its original state and press CTRL-F to go into search mode.  You can then type in the customer number you are looking for.

q.  When I try to access a menu item or option, it says you do not have permission to do this.  Why?

a.  This means that your system administrator has not given you access to this area, or you have not purchased this particular feature.

q.  I pressed escape too many times and the main menu is gone.  How do I get it back?

a.  Press F12 or the blue Navision icon in the top left corner of the screen.

q. My hair itches. How come?

a. Try a shampoo without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

q. I don't know what a particular field is for.  How can I find out?

a. Click on the field and press F1.  This will usually tell you what the field is for.

q. I have made some checks on the payment journal but nothing printed out and yet I have posted the journal. Why?

a. If no checks were printed and the journal posted then Navision did not make any. You must have forgotten to set the “Bank Payment Type” column to the option “Computer Check”. Make manual checks for what you printed or reverse the journal and repeat the payment process.

q. I have just purchased additional granules and received a new license. How do I install the new license?

a. If you are running Navision SQL Option: go to Tools -> License Information. Hit the "Upload" button and point Navision to your new license. If you are using a Navision database: go to Tools -> License Information. Hit the "Import" button then point Navision to your new license.

q. I am trying to install Navision. However, Navision seems to install and then when installation nears completion it uninstalls. Why is that?

a. You are trying to install Navision on Terminal Server remotely. Terminal Server requires you to login locally to install Navision or any other application.

q. I have a number of different printers. Two of these are special; one I use for checks and the other for invoices. How do I tell Navision where to print my checks and invoices?

a. Go to General Ledger-> Setup-> Printer Selections. Enter the report ID for your checks and invoices and where they should be printed.

q. I have been using the Print and Post function on the General Journal but it does not work anymore. The posting is done but there is nothing printed. Why?

a. Go to General Ledger -> Reports and open the G/L Register report. Remove all filters in this report. Make a short preview of the report to make sure the filters are removed.

q. Whenever I try posting, I get the message: "The posting date is not within your allowed posting date range". How do I change that?

a. Go to General Ledger-> Setup-> General Ledger Setup and change the “Allow Posting From” and “Allow Posting To" dates.

q. There is a lot of old data in Navision that I no longer need to see. How do I get rid of this data?

a. Perform a compression of this data. To do this go to General Ledger-> Periodic Activities ->Date Compression and select the ledger you want to compress. Note that the year you select to compress must first be closed.

q. I have gone to the bank account in the General Ledger but I can't find a function to reconcile my GL bank entries. How do I do this?

a. Figures posted to the General Ledger cannot be reconciled. You will need to post all bank transactions through the Bank Account in Navision to be able to reconcile them.
